Vivek Saxena, CEO and Co-founder, Digicita Venture Studio agrees with the finding of a Credit Suisse report that pegs the value of the India digital payments industry at $200m with fivefold growth projections to $1 trillion by 2023. In reaction to whatsapp's recent entry, Vivek notes that the messaging application’s simplicity, intuitive navigation and ease-of-use have made it the darling of teenagers and elders alike. He therefore concludes, “If the past is anything to go by, the payments implementation too would be adopted by the consumers and change the way India makes P2P payments, which in my mind also includes payments to small merchants such as the kirana stores.”

Exclusive: Ola buys majority stake in mobile wallet ZipCash

In the race to stay ahead in India's hyper-competitive online taxi services space, ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd, the owner of Ola, has acquired a majority stake in mobile wallet company ZipCash. ZipCash was one of Vivek's earliest disruptive innovations, that changed the digital payments landscape. He created one of the earliest digital wallets in the world that was among the first to receive RBI authorisation to issue pre-paid instruments (PPI) in India. ZipCash now powers Ola Money.
